How Long Did It Take the US to Become an Ideal Currency?
There was a great deal of labor mobility and of course there was a frontier. Southerners headed from the south to Texas and so on. Northerners headed into the Midwest. So yeah, so we always had, I think, labor mobility is a way of adjusting to these shocks. For African Americans, it was a very different story because of family ties and the difficulties they faced moving north.
