Network Nostalgia - What Was It Like Back in the 90s?

The network was seen as an alternative to the centralized top down broadcasting method of, let's say, television, radio, newspapers and so on. The idea that you can take media matters in your own hands is what made networks popular back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Networks became unmanageable after web2.0 when other types of software were necessary to cater for enormous economies of scale.
