The History of Spam

The word spam has had several different meanings over the course of its use in a way that we would recognize now. It was used by Monty Python as the basis for a joke in a sketch, which became the basis for the word as we know it on the internet. In 1994, people circulating messages from PC to PC were mislabeled as "spam" and sent out unwanted commercial solicitations. The first time this happened is when someone wanted to sell a dinette set in New Jersey but ended up getting an Australian address instead.
