Dante seems to invite his readers to gloss his poem with Aquinas. The first commentators on Dante's Commedia dutifully obliged, quoting liberally from both the summa tula gie and the summa contour genteeles. From the early 14th century commentators on them, they're developed a venerable tradition of reading Dante and Aquinas together.
