The Eighth Amendment and Voting
The Fifth Circuit reviewed a Mississippi law that states the eligibility for voters as their age, their residency requirements. A plaintiff sued arguing that this violated the Equal Protection Clause and the Eighth Amendment's prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. Part of the majority's reasoning here was in fact, 35 states reinstitute felons voting rights after they've served their time.
