The FBI's Investigation of Igor Dechenko as a Russian Spy
The FBI paid Igor Dechenko almost a quarter of a million dollars, even after he was unable to provide any evidence for a single claim. More shockingly, according to the Durham report, the FBI had significant evidence that Dechenko himself was Russian intelligence. It had closed a counterintelligence investigation into him on in 2011 because agents mistakenly believed he had left the country. The FBI investigated Dechenko as a possible Russian spy from 2009 to 2011 before it became a full-fledged investigation.
