My father never said that he was conservative. He never used, never called himself anything. But i had the sense that he wanted each community to learn something from him. The problem was either people were becoming too obsessed with schovenor and losing sight of yeshemim or they didn't even know what's schovenor. I think the central issue was always shemim. Of course, praying is jewish, yet ning is jewish. And there are great jewish teachings about davening and how important it is. And so my father wanted to bring that to people. Just as he criticised the religious behaviorism for people who get obsessed without any kind of spirit.
