People had all kinds of crazy schemes to get across. Most involved bridges. There were other attempts with tunnels. I'll just focus really quickly on one bridge, the north river bridge in New York City. It would have been a bridge for trains and an trolley's too,. They would board on the jersey side and come down at 30 fifth and seventh avenue. My yo si bridge was going to be soaring over a solid chunk of the west side. Like a quarter of manhattan island would be underneath this gigantic bridge.
