The Siege of Maripul
The siege of Maripul lasted almost three months. Among the last out were members of the Azov Battalion, an elite band of troops who had been holed up in the Azov-style steel plant. They only surrendered after they were ordered to cease fighting. More than 600 members of Azov are still believed to be in Russian captivity. And this week more than 20 of them went on trial in southern Russia. Some of the defendants are women, and they include women who say they were cooks at the steel factory. The Ukrainian military are saying they are hopeful that the defenders will be exchanged for Russian soldiers captured by Ukraine.
