The Greeks and Tissa Fernes
Tissa Fernes is the satrap of Lydia who was, according to Xenophon, responsible for the coral that Cyrus and Artaxerxes had in the first place. So Tissa Fernes comes to them with this story that he knows the difficulty that the Greeks are in. And so he thought if he could arrange something where they could be spared that he might win them over his friends. He proposes that they swear oaths, one that he will escort them out, provide a market, do no harm to them.
