The Rise of Isis in Syria

More than half a million syria s were killed and over half the population displaced from their homes. While all sides committed atrocities, the regime was by far the worst offender. The united nations security council failed to prevent the atrocities or hold any one to account. There has been complete impunity for torture, the destruction of religious sites, the deliberate targeting of hospitals. A total disdain was shown for international norms.
