It's very costly and difficult to design a new instruction at architecture. This means that even programms written for computers way back then will still work on computers to day. A good example of a long running, backward compatible instruction is the x 86 instruction seid architecture. Another major ssay, is the a r m which is used in many smart phones and mobile devices. And so the actual set of machi instructions that you send that senter to the processr on your mobile phome will be different to those that you send out on your computer.
