The Elders of the Land Respond to King Ahab

King Ahab asked the elders of Samaria if they could provide enough dust for all his troops. They said yes, but then he sent other messengers with a more encompassing request. He told them not to listen and don't consent; that's what he did in verse nine. Robert Alter says we should probably understand this Hebrew word to refer to footsteps.
