The Story of the Prussian Pseudo-Military Education
In the 1800s and early 1900s, public education was designed to create generations of kids who could sit still. We are not doing a very good job of amplifying it among people who are lucky enough to have it at home. If we teach somebody to be a baseball fan, you don't tell them that there's going to be a test. It's not how baseball fans are created. They do it because they want to.
