The Statute of Laborers and the Black Death
In 1351, Parliament adopted a new law called the Statute of Laborers. It was designed to protect the upper classes from rising working class wages. Law didn't just apply to rural peasants; it also applied to carpenters, masons, tailors and blacksmiths. This conflict ultimately led to a major revolt by the peasants in the 1380s.
