The Carthaginians and Agregentum

Siege of agregentum was first opportunity for new roman friendship with hiro to bear fruit. Despite persistent skirmishes the romans were able to build a double wall around the city, one facing in and one facing out. The carthaginian commander had every intention of simply starving the romans out as his own troops were raw and undisciplined. In the aftermath of the fighting, though, that discipline broke down as the roman soldiers got up scavaging for spoils. Women and children were slaughtered along with the men, and the city was stripped of its wealth.
