Alexander Kortokovsky's Comments on the Donetsk War
Alexander Kortokovsky is a senior Russian separatist official from Donetsk. He defected during the first Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and set up his own battalion called Vostok Battalion. Today, he is the deputy head of the Russian National Guard in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic - which Russia said they annexed in September. His comments suggest that those nice, shiny new brigades we thought were being prepared for the offensive have at least in part been committed. This might suggest to me that this is the beginning of the grand offensive. But there's no way of knowing that at the moment; it may well be more shaping operations.
