Joseph Smith left his fingerprints all over the Book of Mormon. His errors in biblical scholarship can let us know with absolute certainty that the Book oformon is not an ancient record, but it's going to be a 19th century text produced by Joseph Smith. There's no way to get around it for the Book of Mormons unless you invoke special pleading.
