I wonder about applying that diet and I'm just riffing here, but I'm curious what your take is on the notion essentially of self-distancing. Is there a part of this person who's cognitively bypassing that maybe they struggle to accept? There's an emotion inside that is deemed unacceptable and therefore they either can't or won't experience that. Maybe sometimes we do it in the service of distancing because it's getting too close. We're feeling too close. And intellectualizing tends to be more distancing.
