What Did Mediaeval Universities Teach?

By 15 hundred, if we sort of cut off our middle ages at that arbitrary round number, there were a total of 62 universities in europe by that date. So what did these mediaeval universities teach? What was their curriculum? Well, it was a fairly set and consistent curriculum that tended to remain mostly constant from one school to another. The basic fields that you would study at any university began h the trivium, threefold path of grammar, logic and rhetoric. Then the quadrivium, the four way path, which is the mathematical analysis of the world. And the fields are arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy.
