The fundamental discrepancies in world view and patterns of behavior do not correspond to differences in nationality or class affiliation. There is hardly any greater divergence in value judgments than that between the ascetics and those eager to enjoy life light heartedly. An unbridgeable gulf separates devout monks and nuns from the rest of mankind. With all their ardent propaganda, the marxians have not succeeded in bringing about a specifically proletarian art or literature. What characterizes them is solely their tendency to call everything they detest bourgeois and everything they like proletarian.
