The Holy Trinity - World Building

i love world building. It's one of the topics i always enjoy talking about. People often ask me about my world building process. How do i actually go about it? How long do i take what steps? And i often have a difficult time describing the actual process for them, because in my mind, it's really impossible to distinguish the act of world building from that of developing plot and er. The story is like a three legged stool, or perhaps a three cylinder engine that only functions because the pieces of world, character and plot are working together.
