Cecilia Ridgio: The groups that we accept as having high status are partly socially constructed. In Scandinavia, she says, women have a long history of far higher rates of leadership. So in those situations, it's actually okay for women to compete for those high-status jobs,. But this is exactly what we are trying to discover now. It's the interplay between biology and culture, biology and social norm.
