Testosterone is thought of as the male hormone. It isn't, women have it, but it is certainly more prevalent in males. Phthalates are anti-androgenic proestrogenic. Or they raise estrogen. They lower testosterone. So then we have to take another deep dive and ask when is it important. And it's most important when during pregnancy,. That's because that's the time that the genitals are being formed. And they need testosterone to form correctly. In rats, you can do this in rats. You can feed the mother some phthalate in her food. And then you can see what it does to the genitals.
