The Origins of Distrust
People were terrified, quite rightly, of nuclear weapons. Eisenhauer and many other people hoped that part of the solution tof this problem was to get people to move away from their fears by touting atoms for peace. This had the unfortunate effect of pushing nuclear energy a forward faster than it naturally would have done. It means they weren't a safeesor weren't either as cheap or as safe as they should have been. The other problem with nuclear energy in the west is that it's been very expensive, ands been very difficult to bring in new reactors on budget and on time. Tis a whole separate sub whole separate problem.
