The Role of Intention in Altruism
In principle altruists are often drawn to thinking in terms of making a difference this is in principle intention with altruism. To arrive at genuine altruism I suggested we need to be focusing on wanting the world to be good fundamentally speaking rather than wanting that we ourselves make a difference to that. In those cases where difference making risk of so difference making preferences take a form that is in tension with genuine benevolence what's going on might be a matter of wanting one's life to be meaningful but I at least suggested that this explanation might not ultimately be coherent.
