Ridiculous History
00:00
A Black Eye, Plain Othello
Aldridge was the first black American actor to break through. He performed in othello on his debut at Coventry Theatre, London. But soon after he faced a smear campaign against him by national media. Historians say it may be because of flu outbreak that drove people away from theatres. It's possible powerful supporters of Aldridge bribed reviewers to write this opprobrious stuff. The real answer is kind of lost to history. Max if wed get people cheeringus, make em sound oddly british, perfiter.
