The novel is 981 pages with another... That would be like notes. He enjoys giving us a hard time, but yet I found myself kind of unable to stop reading. Every time I thought that I had enough and wanted to skim, there'd be some arresting image or beautifully nuanced passage about the emotions of human consciousness which sort of drew my attention back. Wallace insists in interviews that first of all the book was,. I think the original draft was about 500 pages longer than the actual version.
