The Importance of Processing What Has Happened to You

The course of natural recovery happens within the first several months after a trauma. We don't want to call something a disorder when it reflects a natural recovery process. The other things that we consider in addition to time would be how severe are the symptoms and how disruptive are they as well. So even if somebody is three months out from a trauma, but they're really struggling and they're having very significant symptoms and it's causing disruption in their lives, we may want to intervene sooner rather than later for them.
