The climax of the series was actually in the fourth book, God Emperor of Doom. And that's where Herbert really talks about power of religion and the power of pressure on populations. I think he gets a lot wrong, because where he goes with that, I don't actually agree with a lot of his conclusions. But as an artistic piece to explain possible things that that humanity or not just possible but almost certainly things that humanity will face in the coming centuries I think he was quite prescient in some ways.
