Hacitic movement emerged at the same time as haskala, jewish enlightenment movement that started in germany. Both sides believed they needed to renew judaism to make it more vital for modern world. But on ground level, among ordinary people, they could sometimes get along pretty well and there was some common ground. In poland, reformers and hacitic leaders sometimes agreed that jews should learn vernacular languages.
