Are Proofs for God's Existence Helpful?
Aquinas proves the existence of a source of order, implying intelligence. A sixth proof also demonstrates the existence of some kind of first cause. We know almost nothing about this god, except that it is the first in a chain of cause and effect. So we want to convert doubters into confident believers. The apologetic use of proofs for god's existence, though real, may be limited. But they can inspire wonder in those who already believe.
