Theaters on 42nd street transformed in the 60s and 70s into various types of movie theaters including those that were grind houses. They did show some pornographic films eventually not to mention second-run hollywood movies black exploitation films even many foreign films. Soon these art houses would sprout up all through the city with one of the oldest surviving theaters being down in Greenwich village.
