The english were not a warrior people. And so hadrata and his men weren't heading to war. They were heading out to deal with their new subjects. It wasn't like they'd need them to push around the peasants. Instead of being weighed down, they would have had a much more comfortable walk in their tunics or shirts. The norse spirits were high as they began their march. To day might be a nice day after all.
