The Ancient Mediterranean and the Study of Mythology

Last year, i spoke with jeremy swist about the ancient mediterranean and how both of those things interact with metal music. This was such a fun conversation for so many reasons, but just hearing how metal bands use and misuse the ancient world is pretty eye opening. In the clip i chose, jeremy talks specifically about the use of ancient rome by certain bands,. How they can be tied to the idea of western supremacy and other dark and problematic shit. These topics are obviously super widespread throughout the study of these ancient people, and it's so important to recognize them, especially like me as someone who's talking about these ancient cultures in a more flattering light.
