The Evolution of Skatepunk

In 1985, the original skatepunk sound had acquired a new thing. Elements of heavy metal, including guitar solos. This actually fractured the community because many thought that things were getting too metal. Some bands who liked this approach moved away from skatepunk and found home in various metal genres. Meanwhile, some skatepunk bands started to get more melodic. The music was still fast and intense, but there were actual, singable melodies. Bad religions' 1988 albums suffer.
