The Seagrass in Blue Carbon
Bathymetric lidar is optimised for mapping the shape and size of the sea floor. It has been used as a hydrographic tool to gain depth information on nautical charts. The seagrass area is directly related to the amount of carbon that's deposited in the root system underneath it. This technology potentially offers us a way to better map the seagrasses so we can then better map the potential for carbon sequestration.
