King canute was thrown into the sea by a massive wave. He struggled to his feet, spitting and sputtering,. His knights bravely waded into the water and dragged him out before it could get too deep to stand. When he got back to the castle, king canute apologized to all his servants for his overbearing requests. From that day on, instead of starting with the king's desires, he tried: "May i please?" The results were just as good, and everyone was much happier. To this very day, king canUTE is known as one of the wisest kings to ever rule in the ancient world.
