Sherman's Hard War

General William Tecumseh Sherman was a pioneer of what he called hard war. He believed that it was not enough to win victories on the battlefield. By draining the Confederacy of its resources, he believed he could sap its will to fight. Grant and Lincoln were skeptical of Sherman's plan for Georgia campaign.
