The Death of Rachmananov
Rachmananov's career wasn't very easy, but he never suffered such a horrible catastrophe as he did when his first symphony was premiered in 1897. He sank into a deep depression and didn't compose for three years until he underwent hypnotherapy which among many other things appeared to cure him. But the failure and the depression it caused stayed with him for the rest of his life.
