Julian and the Roman Empire
Julian is born in 334 roughly. And when Constantine, his uncle dies in 337, there's a mass purge of Julian's branch of the Flavian dynasty. So he's packed off to, you know, various places of semi-exile where he's basically raised on Christian and classical literature by various tutors, bishops and otherwise. Eventually by 355, Constantius the second has been emperor by himself for a while and he needs somebody to represent him in the west. He elevates Julian to the rank of Caesar,. so he's keeping this sort of semi-tetraquic arrangement here. By that point, however, Julian had already secretly converted to paganism.
