The Importance of Specialization in Fields
You might think that to contribute to a field, you would have to be deeply and specialisedly knowledgeable about that field. Well, that is true if you want to make incremental progress in the field. If you want to actually make a foundational change in the field, it is absolutely not true. It's something where you might have thought that sort of increased specialisation would lead to more rapid progress in fields.
