The German Ambassador's Telegram to the German Ambassador in Mexico
In 1917, Germany sent a telegram to the U.S. proposing an alliance with Mexico during World War One. The message was intercepted by British intelligence and passed on to America. In other words, the proposal was in reality a large-scale deceptive maneuver to incite Carranza into a suicidal attack on the United States.
