Rabbinical Judaism adopts a single Hebrew text as their normative text. And that becomes the rabbinic Bible. Anything that wasn't in this text was rejected. And anything that was in it was affirmed. So by the fourth century, there was just one in existence. It wasn't until 1940 we could finally say Jerome, you're wrong.
