The Runaway in Human Animal Cognition

In 1999 I said chimps don't understand causal or intentional relations in the world. But we found out through doing our research that that is wrong. They have causes and they understand the goals and intentions of others. And so that actually is what helped lead me to really focus on the cooperation, collaboration, shared intentionality part of it. That is why I think the runaway in humans' ability to sort of mind read exactly is because we are trying to share our intentional states with others.
