The Importance of Scaling Digital Media Distribution
Comcast CEO David O'Brien says he saw an opportunity to innovate around the model for distributing digital content. His view was based on two assumptions: consumer demand is predictable, and media will never travel alone in the future. He believes that providing one hour of cable TV to a 1.5 Nielsen rated audience through a type of digital media menu requires over 8,000 copies of the same file which represents 25 terabytes of data.
