An Extremization Problem in Physics
There is this quantity called action in physics, which is well known by all the physics people and students. The path with the smallest worwit, i should say, extreme action, turns out to be the one which shows newtonian physics. That's the only path where you're going to see that the evolution actually follows what can be recognized as a law,. And this is what we do in physics, we actually solve these problems, and we get equations of motion from them.
