Gurdjip learned the Enneagram not as a description of personality types, but as a symbol of cosmic laws. He was directed to what Gurdjip called the Sarmuni Brotherhood. They are supposedly either a real or mythical Brotherhood of initiates dedicated to inner work. And that's where he learned most of the system that he taught later in the West and Europe and Russia.
