Pain and Opiate Requirements in the First 24 Hours of Surgery

There were no significant differences between the studying control groups with respect to clinical outcomes, pain, control, function. The length of hospital stay was similar between groups and there was no difference in post operative complications between the groups either. Patients on bupe norphine who were not given buper norphine the day after surgery had significantly higher p ca, morphine equivalent requirements in the first 24 hours after surgery compared with those who were given their usual dose. But as you alluded to, all these findings have to be considered in the context of the very small sample size. Our next study examines pain and opiate requirements in a slightly different patient population.
