What's Next for Xi's Foreign Policy?
A lot of these appointments are points of continuity with Xi's existing government. But they do seem to be suggested, or at least folks have been reading them as being suggested as there's a doubling down happening to some extent here. There is nothing in these appointments to suggest that there's any backing down from that, even though it has not always been received well. The idea of nationalism as a way to bind the country together and responding to nationalist pressures within China is something that will continue to be fostered in harness.
